3 Hot Trends in the Vacation Rental Market

Updated: May 3, 2020

Yes, we are all sheltering in place and doing what's best for our health, our families' health, and that of our loved ones. But many of us are feeling the pain with loss of income, our daily routines, stress at home, etc. Maybe your investments or rental properties are sitting empty. Or worse, maybe your tenants are out of work and unable to pay rent.

You might be asking yourself, "how long can this go on?" Or, if you are a glass half full kind of person, maybe you're wondering, "what's next?"

Well, read on. There is hope! We have identified three hot trends that can help ease the pain and keep your investments running smoothly.

Three Hot Trends Now

Here are 3 hot trends happening that you can take advantage NOW. With a little knowledge and/or the use of a skilled property manager, you can position your property properly and stay booked during these tenuous times.

Longer-Term Stays Goodbye, dreaded three night stays. Hello, one month stays! There's a major shift happening in the market, in part due to COVID 19, and that is longer stays. These extended stays provide you and the guest an added level of comfort. After all, less frequent comings and goings provide fewer opportunities to spread germs-- and that's a good thing. Financially it also makes sense because you, the host, can save on less frequent cleanings and maintenance.

Staycations Those ocean breezes or city views can provide a nice change of pace while sheltering in place. So whether you are looking to ditch Pasadena for the Palisades, or flee Van Nuys for Venice, short-term rentals can provide that needed break and present a whole host of new takeout options.

Remote Stays Many people are looking to get out of the congested city. And it should be no surprise that right now, they are looking for clean, wide open spaces. Properties with pools or backyards are particularly attractive. So if the idea of sheltering at a cabin in Tahoe or sitting by the pool in Palm Springs sounds enticing, you are not alone. These properties are hot, hot, hot!
